STEELS & Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience: Impact Through Inquiry at Presque Isle

Bring Local Environmental Issues to Life—Right on the Beach at Presque Isle! Join a hands on educator workshop held on the beautiful shores of Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA. This immersive experience helps K–12 educators design Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) that spark curiosity and empower students to investigate real environmental issues in their own communities. Spend the day on the beach exploring field tested strategies, collecting and analyzing environmental data from Lake Erie’s unique ecosystems, and planning authentic student action projects—all fully aligned to PA STEELS and Environmental Literacy & Sustainability standards. What: This full‑day workshop prepares educators in the Lake Erie watershed (Pennsylvania’s Erie and Crawford Counties) to design and facilitate Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) grounded in local environmental and watershed issues. Participants will engage in hands‑on field investigations exploring local environments, data collection and analysis, and environmental action project planning that connects student learning to authentic community needs. Eligible P–12 formal and nonformal educators in the Lake Erie watershed will be provided a $100 participation stipend.
