September – October 15: GLEAMS Coastal Cleanup

Are you ready to help protect our Great Lakes? Whether you’re organizing a coastal cleanup with students, colleagues, family, or friends, or joining an existing event, you’ll help remove litter from our shorelines while contributing to the health of the Great Lakes.

Our regional NMEA chapter, the Great Lakes Educators of Aquatic and Marine Science, or GLEAMS, invites you to participate in the annual GLEAMS Coastal Cleanup, a region-wide stewardship effort running from September 1 through October 15. It’s a great opportunity to connect stewardship, science, and community action while helping protect our Great Lakes.

On Thursday, September 10th, pop on to a Zoom event at your convenience any time between 6 – 7 PM Eastern. Get some guidance and ask your questions about how to host your own clean-up or how to join one that is already planned. Register for the Coastal Clean Up Drop-In Q&A.

The GLEAMS Coastal Cleanup is a region-wide event with many local cleanups from September 1 – October 15, 2026.

  • If you would like to host a clean up, let GLEAMS know your plans by registering with us here.
  • When you have finished, share your results on this form.

If you would like, you can tap into the resources at the Alliance for the Great Lakes.  If you sign up with them as a group leader, they can support you scheduling a cleanup with a registration web page and additional promotion.
