Shipboard Science Immersion: Virtual Spotlight on Lake Superior

What: GLEAMS past president and Michigan middle school teacher, Mandi Young, will share the investigations taking place aboard the R/V Lake Guardian from an educator’s perspective. Mandi will provide a brief overview of each project before taking a deeper dive into the specific project she is involved with. Each project has accompanying lessons that will be shared with attendees.

The Shipboard Science Immersion is a signature program of the Center for Great Lakes Literacy.

Project Topics:

  • How zooplankton communities change from nearshore to offshore and from day to night
  • How zooplankton community composition affects larval fish diet selection
  • How water color and incoming light affect water chemistry and photosynthesis
