Great Lakes Aquarium is hosting a professional development opportunity on Saturday, January 10, 2026, for educators interested in exploring microplastics with their students. This session will explore a citizen science effort for microplastic sampling that was designed to be deployed in science classrooms. Dr. Melissa Maurer-Jones will lead you through the activity along with introducing ways the activity could be adapted for your classroom.
What to Expect:
- Hands-on experience with microplastics sampling techniques
- We may go outside to collect water samples. Dress appropriately for the weather.
- Discussion of current research on microplastic pollution
- Practical strategies for adapting the activity to your classroom
