Educator Professional Learning: Experience Aquaculture at the University of Minnesota

Join Minnesota Sea Grant for an immersive, hands-on experience at the University of Minnesota’s Aquaculture Lab. Our 3-hour tour/workshop events promote, explore, and prepare educators for the Great Lakes Aquaculture Challenge that begins in January and runs through April of 2026. When: November 13, 2025

  • Morning Session: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Afternoon Session: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Cost: FREE. There is no cost to attend this event.

What: Participants will:

  1. Tour the Minnesota Sea Grant Aquaculture Lab and learn how we grow fish
  2. Take part in an engineering and design challenge to build a model aquaponic system
  3. Receive educational resources from Minnesota Sea Grant

Register here for your preferred session by 11/1/2025. Participation is limited to 15 spots per time slot and spots will be reserved on a first come-first serve basis with preference given to Great Lakes states educators.

The mid-November timing is intentional! Our Experience Aquaculture at the U of M workshops will occur during the 2025 National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) conference in Minneapolis.

Transportation:  Transportation will be provided to and from the NSTA Conference at the Minneapolis Convention Center and the Minnesota Sea Grant Aquaculture Lab. Exact pick-up and drop-off times and locations will be provided to registered participants.
